Guest Blog: Mobile Broadband Roadtrip Results

Each year Broadband Genie conducts a unique test of the UK’s mobile broadband services by pitting the major providers against each other in a real-world, head to head test.

The Mobile Broadband Road Trip takes dongles from all network operators and several MVNOs to directly compare performance via a series of tests designed to emulate practical situations.

The 2013 Road Trip was our most punishing challenge yet as we traveled from London to Edinburgh and covered all the major networks - EE, O2, Three, T-Mobile and Vodafone, plus MVNOs Virgin Mobile, Globalgig and Samba Mobile.

Ultimately Three was declared the winner of the 2013 Road Trip for a strong outcome in most areas, with good average speeds and excellent test completion rates. EE was a close runner-up with very good completion rates and the fastest average speeds.

What was most notable this year was the ever-increasing gap between the performance of networks like Three and EE which have placed a heavy focus on mobile data, and the likes of O2 and Vodafone.
